All is now set for the commencement of the the revived Binuyo Sports Festival taking place among the various communities that make up Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, reports The Gazelle News.com.
It has been an age long festival that has been active in the last 40 years in Odo-Otin and it is now being fully resuscitated and modernized
The sports festival is bankrolled by the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Osun State, Prince Abdullahi Adeyanju Binuyo and it is aimed at discovering new talents not only for Osun State but also for the country’s various national teams in some of the major sporting activities in the country.
Competitors are expected to participate in the following sports at the festival: football, table tennis, ayo olopon and scrabble.
According to the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the festival, Hon Ayodele Wasiu Adepoju, the sports festival is also meant to empower youths in the local government.
Adepoju, who also doubles as Chairman of Odo Otin South Local Council Development Area, stated further that the Binuyo Sports Festival is meant to complement the youth inclusiveness and participation in governance policy of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
“Through this festival, we want to discover new talents, explore quality leadership and curb youths restiveness in the state,” he said.
According to him, about 18 football teams, 18 table tennis teams, 18 ayo teams and 18 scrabble teams representing the 18 towns in the local government will participate in the sports festival.
“At the end of the festival, the best teams in each sport among the participating teams will be selected by the technical team for the competition and will be named the Binuyo Sports Teams.
“They will be groomed to participate in various sporting competitions in and outside the state. Our aim is also to expose them to modern training programmes of the various sporting activities they took part in during the festival with the eventual aim of assisting them in getting foreign clubs for their sports,” he said.
The Gazelle News.com can also report that a foreign football scout is already in Odo-Otin and billed to monitor the football event of the festival with a view to selecting outstanding talents discovered for possible recruitment into foreign clubs.
The sports festival commences on Tuesday, 14 December, 2021 with the opening match of the football event taking place at Odo Otin Grammar School, Okuku while the festival closes also with the final of the football event which will take place at St Augustine Secondary School, Agbeye Road, Inisa at a date to be announced by the organisers.
