The crisis in the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) deteriorated on Monday, 23 August, 2021 when some chieftains of the party loyal to the former Governor and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, were arraigned in court on charges of assault and felony, reports The Gazelle News.com.
Top on the list of those arraigned at the Osogbo Magistrate Court on Monday, 23 August, 2021 were: current Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of the party in the state, Razaq Salinsile; ex-Chairman of the party in Osun and Chairman of The Osun Progressives (TOP), a group within the party in the state, Elder Lowo Adebiyi; a former Senior Special Assistant on Taxation to Ogbeni Aregbesola, Gbenga Akano; former state Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Special Needs, Comrade Biyi Odunlade; ex-Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Kazeem Salami; and APC members in Ilesa: Popoola Alaba and Azeez Adekunle.
According to the charge sited by The Gazelle News.com, they were charged with assault and conspiracy.
They were arraigned before Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara.
But the APC chieftains pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Defence Counsels, Abdulfatai Abdulsalam and Muftau Adediran applied for the bail of the APC chieftains on self recognisance.
Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara granted bail to
Salinsile, Adebiyi, Salami, Odunlade and Akano, on self recognition in a sum of N5 million each.
The Magistrate also admitted Alaba and Adekunle to bail in a sum of N5 million with one surety each. The surety must either be a civil servant or house owner residing within the jurisdiction of the magistrate.
The case was adjourned till September 24 for mention.
