Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have killed a suspected secessionist operating in the Aguata area of the state.
The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain suspect.
According to him, operatives of the police command engaged a gang operating in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite/Uga road. While one of the suspects was killed, the others managed to escape.
In a press release made available to newsmen on the afternoon of Monday, 30 September, 2024, Ikenga said the incident occurred at midday of Sunday, 29 September, 2024.
He explained: “On 29/9/2024 at 11:30 p.m., the Police-led Security Force, while on patrol within Aguata LGA, received information about suspected armed men sighted in a black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite/Uga axis.
“The operatives, in an offensive approach to the scene, engaged the armed men in a gun battle and neutralized one of the miscreants while the others escaped.”
The state police image-maker added that the Security Forces recovered two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, two magazines loaded with live ammunition, 15 live cartridges, and a black Prado Jeep with two different plate numbers.
