Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested 32-year-old social media user, Mustapha Mohammed, over alleged false allegation against Hon Jafar Abubakar Magaji, a member representing Mubi North/Mubi South/Maiha Federal Constituency of the state in the House of Representatives.
The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, made this disclosure in a statement issued to newsmen in Yola, the state capital on Friday, 2 August, 2024
According to Nguroje, Mustapha fabricated a statement on his Facebook page on 30 May, 2024 against the member representing Mubi North/Mubi South/Maiha Federal Constituency of Adamawa State.
“The arrest followed a formal complaint made to the Commissioner of Police by the Council to Hon. Magaji, alleging that Mustapha Mohammed caused a reputational harm by falsely accusing him of withholding money owed to him, just to destroy his reputation in an unfair and dishonest manner, thereby assassinating his Character,” the police said.
The state police image-maker added that the suspect was being held also because sometime last year, he misappropriated three sets of computer accessories meant for a constituency project.
Nguroje in the statement claimed that Mustapha converted the items to his personal use, thereby causing wrongful gain to himself and wrongful loss to the Constituency.
According to him, during investigation over the alleged offensive facebook posting, it was revealed that Mustapha Mohammed had indeed made the posts on his personal Facebook account deliberately to harm his reputation.
“The Adamawa State Police Command Warns members of the public to avoid disseminating false accusations, hate speeches and fake news/comments on social media platforms,” he said in the statement, adding that the suspect would be diligently prosecuted.
