One of the most popular young politicians in Agege Federal Constituency, Bukola Nurudeen Sofidiya aka Gidado has dissociated himself from the defection of ex-Member of the House of Representatives, Hon Olakunle Amunikoro to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reports thegazellenews.com
Amunikoro, who represented Agege Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for two terms between 2003 and 2011, is an uncle of the young but popular politician.
Many have been insinuating that with the defection of his uncle, Gidado has also moved with him, a rumour he denied and debunked.
“I’m a full-blooded member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and I remain a committed and loyal member of the party.
“I’ve not defected to PDP or any other party. I’m a Progressives hence I remain committed to the ideals of APC, there has never been any other party for me.
“My father until his death was a committed Progressives politician and he never waivered. Those spreading the rumour of my defection to PDP are detractors who are intimidated by my growing popularity in the party and the entire progressives family,” he said.
Gidado stated further that he and his uncle are two different individuals and adults who are old enough to be responsible for any step taken to actualise their political aspirations.
“Yes, he is my uncle and I won’t deny that but that does not mean I can’t take decisions on my own,” he said.
According to him, his main objective remains to contribute his quota to the struggle to ensure victory for all the candidates of the APC in the coming general elections particularly its Presidential Flag-bearers: Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; and his Deputy, Dr Kadir Obafemi Hamzat.
