The Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area’s Sports Fiesta began on Saturday, 9 November, 2024.
The Chairman of the LCDA, Hon Rasaq Olusola Ajala had earlier announced the commencement of the fiesta and other end of the year programmes at a well attended Press Conference which took place at the council secretariat in Ilupeju on Friday, 8 November, 2024.
The maiden programme of the sports fiesta thus took place on Saturday, 9 November, 2024, with the Chairman leading residents of the council area on a fitness cum road walk across the major areas in the LCDA.
The fitness walk began from the gate of the council at about 8:30 am.
Addressing the mammoth crowd before the commencement of the walk, Hon Ajala stated that the essence of sporting activities is to identify and expose the hidden talents among the young people within the LCDA to the outside world so they can use the platform to provide for themselves a sustainable empowerment by so doing will be productively engaged and be useful to themselves, members of their family and the larger society.
“I believe this template has come to stay as Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA project is a work in progress and whomever will take the mantle of leadership will have no choice than to continue to build on what is on ground and even surpassed what our achievements in all areas of development.
“We are nurturing and developing our youths through this programme. Just recently, two young boxers: a male and a female, from this LCDA won gold medals for Lagos State at the National Youth Sports Festival while five footballers from this LCDA were selected to represent Nigeria at the recently concluded Gothia Cup in Sweden.
“We have instituted this and it will continue to grow,” Ajala assured.
The walk took the crowd through Coker Road, Oyewole, Majolate, Kayode, Matanmi, Giwa, Akorohufayo, Adeshina streets and ended at Kajola Health Center in Ayantunga Street.
Members of the Executive, Legislative Arm of government, Management Staff, Political leaders, CDC, CDA, Youth and other stakeholders were among the people that participated in the event.
