Following the assent of President Bola Tinubu to bills establishing development commissions for the geo-political zones in the country, Senate has appointed Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen for the Standing Committees raised to perform oversight functions over the Commissions, reports thegazellenews.com.
The new Committees’ Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen were announced by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and they are as follows:
Senator Babangida Hussaini and Muntari Dandutse as Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively of the Senate Committee on North West Development Commission;
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Kenneth Eze are the Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively for the Senate Committee on
South East Development Commission;
Sen Titus Zam Tartenger and Senator Isa Jibrin are the Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively of the Committee on North Central Development Commission.
In a related development, the Senate has also reshuffled leadership of some standing committees.
Senator Akpabio thus announced that: Senator Abdul Ningi has been moved from the Committee on Population to head the Committee on FERMA while Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan moved to Chair the Committee on
Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, she previously heads the Committee on Local Content.
Also appointed is Senator Garba Maidoki as Chairman Senate Committee on Sports Development; Senator Joel Thomas is the new Chairman Senate Committee on Local Content, while Senator Victor Umeh is now the Chairman Senate committee on National Population and NIMC having been moved from the Senate Committee on Diaspora.
