It was double knockout blows for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the Nation Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Ibadan dismissed the Petitions of the two parties and their candidates against the victory of Senator Yunus Abiodun Akintunde of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the National Assembly Elections on Saturday, 25 February, 2023.
Thus, the three man panel led by Justice Sobere Biambo not only dismissed the Petitions of the PDP and NNPP, and their candidates: Chief Oyebisi Ilaka and Aderoju Ismail Balogun respectively, but also affirmed the election victory of Senator Akintunde.
In unanimous decisions on the two cases, Justice Biambo and other members of the panel: Justice ZA Sadat and Chief Magistrate Safau Ladan Yusuf dismissed the petitions of the petitioners and affirmed that the Senate Chairman on Environment was duly elected.
The two candidates and their parties have separately gone to the Tribunal seeking to overturn the victory of Senator Akintunde and urging the Tribunal to declare each of them the winner of the election.
The Tribunal threw out their petitions and affirmed the election of Senator Akintunde and the APC.
