Sports philanthropist, Ehis Osaigbovo, has pronounced his commitment to bankroll this year’s Teen Boxing Tournament.
The grassroots tournament for aspiring male and female boxers between the age of 15—19 in Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, a brainchild of the bustling community’s authorities is scheduled for October.
Osaigbovo, the millionaire businessman, famed for sports philanthropy, according to a statement released by the Council Head of Sports Development, Segun Davies, has pledged N10 million for the sponsorship of the catch them young tournament.
Davies said the oil and gas mogul made further commitment to sponsor the event yearly in sole sponsorship capacity.
This gesture, the Council official said, would support the council’s drive to rid the community of criminal gangs by 2030 and enrich the lives of youths with potential to make a career out of boxing.
Quoting Osaigbovo, Davies wrote, “It’s my pleasure to again put my money where my mouth is. I know the power of sports in terms of promoting friendship and creating wealth.
“Nigeria is becoming an unsafe place occasioned by gangsterism, political, tribal and religious conflicts.
“The country is also destitute of wealth. I have the conviction that through sports we would turn both corners. So, reason, am always at the service of sports and athletes.”
