The abandoned Ifako Ijaiye Public Library located in the Vetland Primary School complex will soon enjoy a face-lift, The Gazelle News.com can report.
This medium can report that the public library was a constituency project of deceased former House of Representatives member for Ifako Ijaiye Federal Constituency, Marufdeen Adeola Adefolabi who represented the Constituency between 2007 and 2011.
The Gazelle News.com reports that the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare inspected the project on Saturday, 22 February, 2020 and assured that the project will soon witness a face lift.
Dare, who visited the project site on the initiative and invitation of the present member representing Ifako Ijaiye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable James Adisa Owolabi, said that a modern ICT Centre will also be constructed in the complex.
Apart from Owolabi, The Gazelle News.com can also report that the Minister was received by the council chairmen in the area: Apostle Oloruntoba Oke, Ifako Ijaiye; and Honourable Hameed Idowu Tijani, Ojokoro Local Council Development Area.
The Minister assured that his ministry would collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Education and the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to build a resource centre to train women and youth in the area in various vocations.
“I’m happy at the reception accorded me here and I assure you that we will not disappoint you,” he said.
Speaking earlier, Hon. Owolabi, said, “the abandoned project has become an eyesore and home to hoodlums during odd hours of the day, hence the dire need for the facility to be upgraded to enable my people, especially the youths, to be equipped with relevant kills for them to be useful to our society at large”.
Oke, who also spoke in line with the request of the Rep member presented more proposals to the Minister, noting, “that opportunities like this do not come everyday”.
The council boss, while commending Hon. Owolabi, added that “for creating this avenue and more within few months in office, we have felt the Federal Government presence like never before in Ifako Ijaiye”.
His Ojokoro LCDA counterpart, Hon. Hameed Idowu Tijani (HID), also commended Hon. Owolabi, for his efforts so far, urging the Minister to ensure all the proposals are considered and implemented.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) of Ifako-Ijaiye LG, Pastor Samuel Olu-Opajobi, pleaded with the Minister to consider the construction of a public primary school on a community piece of land at Ndike Obawole, which the latter assured would be given consideration.
