Taiwo Enegwea, a former Super Eagles has described commitment, determination and being there for each other as the main reasons the Super Eagles beat their perennial rivals, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun in their Round of 16 tie at the ongoing African Cup of Nations, reports thegazellenews.com
Speaking on exclusively on phone to thegazellenews.com medium immediately after the match, Enegwea, member of the Saudi 89 Flying Eagles team which reached the final of the U-20 World Cup before losing to Portugal, described the Eagles as being very compact and played for each other.
“They were attacking and defending together and you can see the commitment in their play. They played for each other. Most of often than not, you see the main pointman Oshimen defending a free kick in his penalty and was immediately back at the other end to attack. Even Lukmman that scored the two goals, Iwobi and Onyeka was marvelous in his defensive midfield duty.
“The way the defenders joined the attack was joy to watch. It eventually culminated in a defender, Calvin Bassey giving the assist for the second goal. It was a complete total performance and I must also commend the leadership quality of Williams Troost-Ekong.
“It was obvious that Cameroun could not break into our defence and they resulted to long range shots and rough play. The Eagles really surprised us positively and I’m impressed,” Enegwea, also a member of the U-17 Golden Eaglets team that lost to Russia in the final of the U-17 World Cup in Canada, said.
He urged the Eagles to keep the momentum going noting that if they continue to play the way they are playing, they will win the cup.
“I noticed the commitment during their match with Cote D’Ivoire and I think that if they can keep it up, they’ll win the cup,” Enegwea told thegazellenews.com
