A member of the House of Representatives, Hon Jide Jimoh has backed the unveiling of Senator Kashim Shettima as running mate to the presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the candidates are tested and trusted leaders who are competent to transform Nigeria.
Jimoh, in an interview on a radio program on Wednesday, 20 July, 2022, said Tinubu and Shettima in the past years have demonstrated their capacity, ability, competence, and commitment to the service of the people as Senators and Governors of their respective states.
“Asiwaju Tinubu, Kashim Shettima are competent to address the issues affecting us and they will both transform Nigeria if given the chance to lead the country in 2023 as president/vice president. They have been tested and trusted at one time or the other as Senators and as the governor of a state.
Speaking on the choice of Senator Kashim Shettima a Muslim just like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu which had generated a lot of controversies, Jimoh said, “Asiwaju Tinubu as a person, people know him to be a person of clear mind. No matter your religion, either Muslim or Christian, Tinubu is ready to work in harmony with the people. He is a man of the constitution and believes in legality and has a straightforward personality.
He added that the decision of the party and Asiwaju on the Muslim-Muslim ticket is not anti-Christian.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker expressed confidence that the party would do the needful on the issues of internal crisis before the election and reconcile all aggrieved members who have left the party.
“The campaign of issues is a necessity now and it’s very important. we have to address it clearly. That is what we need. How do we move Nigeria forward and take the country to a greater height? That should be paramount. Every single person that resigned from the party has constitutional rights provided it is not criminal. So, I want the party to go for reconciliation and resolve it amicably so that it will not affect our party.
“Why people are clamoring now is because APC has become a phenomenon in Nigeria and now that the party has been tested and trusted, so they have to by all means talk about our party. We have to address all the internal crises constitutionally. Resigning from the party does not mean the party will leave them. We will still embark on reconciliation domestically to resolve it, he said.
