The Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon. Wale Adedayo, has assured that the youths in the local government area would be engaged in activities that would change their lives positively.
Adedayo made the disclosure on Thursday, 2 September, 2021 while speaking during an interview on a radio programme on Lion 🦁 93.9 FM, Itamarun Ijebu Imusin.
The chairman disagreed with those who believe that only the involvement of youths in political activities can ensure their contribution to nation building, arguing that the youths have always been involved in politics, either at elective or appointive level.
According to the council boss, “You people should evaluate the contributions of youths in nation building beyond political engagements. Many youths in my local government area are involving in fish farming business. They are involved in many other businesses that help our local economy.
“Those who continue to argue that the youths are being sidelined politically are not correct. How old was Hon. Dimeji Bankole, when he was elected a member of the House of Representatives? How old was he when he became the Speaker? Former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, was under 50 when he became Governor. Go to the South-South and South-East. Many of them there were not 40 years old. Some of those shouting all these youths thing only want to be politically relevant.”
He further assured that youths will be gainfully engaged in modern agriculture. He noted for instance that ljebu East Local Governmentovernment will soon restart it’s feed mill so that feeds can be made cheaper with it’s attendant benefits to fish farmers, many of who are youths.
“We are going to empower them and also discourage thuggery among the youths. Measures will be taken to engage them in modern agricultural system. Let me also inform you that nine out of the 11 Councillors in Ijebu East LG are under 30, including the vice chairman of the local government council” , he added.
The council chairman who is an Afenifere disciple, explained that the local government cannot employ job seekers due to paucity of funds and what obtains now in the state, but he is optimistic of tapping from the potentials and skills that abound in some corps members to implement some of his programmes.
He further thanked the NYSC Director in Ijebu East LG in her quest to help get the required corps members that will assist in teaching some key science subjects in some secondary schools in Ijebu East and graduates of Agriculture related courses as well.
Adedayo assured that farmers in the local government area will be engaged on how to practice irrigation farming that will help them in all year round farming system.
Earlier, the council boss had declared that efforts are ongoing to make sure that all the health centers in Ijebu East have medical doctors. He highlighted that his administration will key seriously in security of lives and properties of residents of the local government area, while he also indicated interest in tapping from potentials abound in culture and tourism to boost economic prosperity in the local government area respectively.
