Newly-elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, on Saturday, 16 October, 2021 assured party faithful that his administration will lead the party to an enviable height.
Ojelabi, who was declared unopposed by the Bayo Adelabu-led State Congress Committee for Lagos State, enjoined party members to join hand with his team to move the state to greater level.
“We are committed to set in our party on a greater pedestal in which other states in the federation will always look up to as leader. We will consolidate the achievement of my predecessors,” he said.
The former lawmaker promised that his team would serve with the best of their ability to complement the giant strides of the State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“This is another milestone in the history of our party. The process and outcome were seamless and non-violent. We give glory to God. We also thank God for giving us good leader with great foresight and thoughtfulness in person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Asiwaju has made his experience and sagacity count in moving our party at the state and national level forward,” he said.
Ojelabi, a former Commissioner for Rural Development in the state, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for endearing the party to Lagosians through his developmental programmes.
APC Lagos State Congress Committee Chairman Bayo Adelabu said the committee ensured objectivity, fairness and justice in going about the assignment.
According to him, 1,615 delegates were accredited for the congress to elected officers into 36 positions.
He expressed satisfaction with the colourful organisation, adequate security and serene environment provided by APC in Lagos State.
“We are impressed with what we have seen so far. Lagos APC has once again showed that they are models for other states to emulate,” he said.
The committee, he said, decided to adopt voice voting because all the candidates came unopposed.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was moving round with his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, to ensure everything went smoothly, congratulated Ojelabi and his team for their emergence.
He thanked God for giving the state a beautiful weather all through the “peaceful” congress.
He expressed appreciation to Asiwaju Tinubu, the Governor Advisory Council (GAC), members of the national and state assemblies and all other party members for ensuring a successful outing.
The governor hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, who came to observe the process and party representatives from the headquarters.
Lagosians, he said, have chosen well, adding that the Ojelabi-led team would take the party to enviable height.
He thanked the Tunde Balogun-led outgoing executive for leaving a big shoe for the new exco to step in.
