Winners have emerged in the First Academic Quiz Competition organised by the Association of Commercial Subject Teachers of Nigeria (ASCTON).
In the junior category, District 5 emerged winners going home with a cash prize of N30,000; District 4 came second and won a cash prize of N20,000; while District 1 which came third won a cash prize of N10,000.
In the senior category, District 6 won the first position alongside with the N30,000 cash prize attached to it; District 1 was the first runners-up winning cash prize of N20,000; while District 2 won the second runners-up position winning N10,000 cash prize in the process.
The event took place at Agidingbi Grammar School, Agidingbi Ikeja.
Speaking at the event, the state President of the ASCTON, Dr Ibrahim Abiodun Rafiu, said that the state academic quiz competition was organised to motivate and encourage commercial students across the federation to be the best.
“That is why we started the competition from the grassroot zones to the district level. The winner at the district level will be representing us at the state level to compete for the national commercial student awards. This is part of ASCTON’s objectives,” he noted, saying the competition is a national event with competition going simultaneously in all states of the Federation.
“This is to get the overall best commercial student in the country,” the ASCTON president said.
Dr Rafiu told The Gazelle News reporter that this competition is the first series in the academic competition at the state level, and it would take place annually.
Among those present at the event are: Mr John Olusesi Olufade, representative of the Co-curricular Department District 6; Mrs Olufunmilayo Adunni, Principal, Surulere Senior Secondary School, Alagbado, District 1; and the host, Mr K.Y. Odesanmi, Director Principal, Agidingbi Senior Grammar School, Ikeja.
