The Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in the Red Chambers, Senator Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, Ph.D, was part of a powerful delegation of 19 members of both Chambers of Nigerian National Assembly that paid a condolence visit Tuesday, 11 June, 2024, to the household of the Imam of Grand Mosque of Medina (Masjid An Nabawi Al-Sharif), Sheikh Abdulmohsen bin Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al-Qasim, to commiserate with him on the death of his mother.
The Imam’s mother, Ummu Farwa died on Monday, 10 June, 2024.
The Imam who also acts as Katib of the Mosque as well as a Shariah Court Judge in Medina expressed joy and appreciation on the visit which noted, revealed a cordial relationship existing between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, the high regard Nigeria has in the spiritual and diplomatic circles in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a video clip of the visit, members of the delegation condoled the revered Imam and his family while also praying for the departed soul.
In his response, Sheikh AbdulMohsen al-Qosim expressed his profound gratitude to the delegation and prayed for peace and prosperity in Nigeria especially in the wake of the commemoration of Democracy Day.
Former Governor of Zamfara State and erstwhile Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Senator AbdulAziz Yari, led the delegation accompanied by Senators: Yunus Akintunde, Aminu Tambuwwal, Abdul Ningi, Shehu Umar Buba among others from both Chambers of the National Assembly.
The Prophet’s mosque has a very important significance in Islam and the Hajj operation. It is the second mosque built by the Holy Prophet Muhammad and it is the second largest and holiest site in Islam after Masjid Al-Haram in Mecca.
Imam AbdulMohsen 57, became the Imam of the Prophet’s mosque at the tender age of 30 .
