Youths numbering over 100 have urged the Senate to ratify appointment of the Acting Managing Director of North East Development Commission (NEDC), Umar Abubakar Hashidu.
Umar is the son of the first civilian Governor of Gombe State.
The agitators on the platform: Coalition of Tangale-Waja in Gombe State also pleaded with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider Gombe South indigenes in his ministerial list.
According to the group’s Chairman, Sani Bilayabu at the weekend, “Umar possesses remarkable credentials and proven track records of dedication to public service.
“We have complete trust in his ability to be fair, just and committed to the development of the North East region. His appointment as the MD will undoubtedly bring about positive change and crystallize the much-needed socioeconomic transformation in the region,” they posited.
The group also wanted President Tinubu to consider indigenes of the Gombe South senatorial zone for ministerial positions, hinting that none ever reached such height.
They argued that: “inclusive governance is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy; it ensures that every citizen’s voice is heard regardless of their background, ethnicity or political affiliation as seen thus far in the appointments and the new leadership of the tenth Assembly.
“We stand here today as representatives of the people of Gombe South, determined to challenge the status quo and put an end to the marginalisation that has hindered our progress for far too long.
“We call on the federal government to recognise our rights and aspirations by allocating a ministerial slot to our region. Let this be a turning point, a moment when we reaffirm our commitment to the principles of justice and inclusivity,” they pleaded.
