As the first phase of the 2023 general election is a couple of days away, Ojo Federal Constituency Campaign Council is not holding back in its critical engagements and interaction with stakeholders and electorates.
This is in its commitment to engender massive support and votes for All Progressives Congress, APC, candidates.
It is this quest that led the Campaign Council to Iba Local Council Development Area, LCDA, to meet the leadership of Market Men and Women and League of Imam/Alfas and Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, on Tuesday, 14 February, 2023, in two separate events.
After the welcome address by the Chairman Iba LCDA, Mr Yisa Jubril Abiola, where he appreciated the market men and women for the huge attendance restating the February 25 and March 11 election dates, the Campaign Council Director General, DG, Mr Rosulu Olusola Idowu urged the leaders of market men and women to take ownership of the Party, by voting in their large number for all candidates of APC. He reminded them that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of APC is the son of the deceased Iyaloja General and necessarily deserves the votes of market operators.
The DG expressed delight in the massive support APC had enjoyed in successive elections, and further charged them to remain forthright in delivering for APC. While charging them to shun the antics of the opposition, he expressed confidence in the capacity of Mr Babajide Olusola SanwoOlu to continue unabated with the development agenda.
“I am confident of Sanwo-Olu’s capacity to continue in his commitment to infrastructure development in Ojo and beyond. We are all witnessing the ongoing construction of Ojo General Hospital at Iyana-Iba. Upon completion of this massive project, we in Ojo will not have any reason to travel to Badagry or Igando for medical services. The large overhead bridge at Iyana-Iba, in addition to the Blue Line Rail, will change the face of our transportation in Ojo and Lagos,” he said.
In her goodwill message, Alhaja Folashade Ogidigbo, Iya Oja Iba LCDA, expressed the resolve of all market men and women to do the bidding of all APC candidates. She argued that it has been the attitude of market men and women to go the way of the Progressives, and the 2023 elections will not be an exception.
In the second engagement with leaders of the League of Imam/Alfas and Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN held in the Iba LCDA Registry, the DG expressed the need for clergymen to participate in politics. He said, “When we fall to participate in politics and elections, it is as good as leaving our fate to be determined by citizens who are not interested in our prosperity”.
Having introduced the candidates of the Party to the religious leaders, he urged them to support them and mobilise votes for them in their congregations and mosques.
He made references to the Development Plan in prosecution in Lagos State; and how it was laid down by the Presidential Candidate of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, when he was Governor of Lagos State.
“It was this Plan that has been methodically implemented by his successors in Lagos since 2007 when he exited office.
“Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has been religious in pursuing this Plan through large scale infrastructure development; social security and services and empowerment programmes,” he said.
He therefore reminded the religious leaders of the need not to leave the governance of Lagos State in the hands of inexperienced lots who cannot appreciate the Plan to make Lagos a 21st century compliant economy.
Alhaji Taodeen Aderopo, Imam of Iba Housing Estate, in his goodwill message gave his words of assurance to vote for all candidates of APC as sought. He however, charged candidates to demonstrate responsibility when voted into office.
Apostle A. O. Adigun, representative of Iba CAN Chairman, expressed commitment of the CAN leadership to vote APC, but proceeded to making four demands which elicited requisite responses from the leadership of the Campaign Council.
