Members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) on Tuesday, 14 January, 2024 gave their blessings to the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Lasbat Mojisola Meranda
Meranda got the blessings of GAC during a meeting at the Lagos House in Marina area of the state.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the new Speaker said the meeting was to seek their blessings and brief them about the impeachment of her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa.
“We are here to brief them about what happened at the House of Assembly yesterday and to seek their blessing which we have gotten,” Meranda said, adding that Obasa was impeached to save the integrity and sanctity of the House of Assembly and Lagos State.
Recall that the the Lagos State lawmakers had impeached Obasa and replaced him with Miranda on Monday, 13 January, 2024.
Jointly addressing journalists, the lawmakers said: “It’s just a change of baton, only death that is constant, so change is inevitable. The members of parliament today decided to change the leadership of the House and you know that the constitution made it clear that the house has the power to regulate its proceedings.”
