All things being equal , Ange Postecoglou, the 57-year-old Celtic coach, is on the verge of taking over as the new Spurs boss after agreeing terms on a deal of up to three years – with confirmation expected on Wednesday, 7 June, 2023, Daily Mail Football reports.
Postecoglou has agreed to become Spurs’ new boss with just the formalities of his appointment left to complete.
The medium reported last Sunday that Tottenham were to make a formal approach to Celtic with a view to discussing their managerial vacancy with Postecoglou this week.
Those discussions have accelerated with Postecoglou, who is on 12-month rolling contract at Parkhead, now on the verge of being handed the reins after the two clubs agreed on the terms of his release.
Postecoglou emerged as the lead contender for the Tottenham head coach’s job after their initial interest in Julian Naglesmann and Arne Slot stalled.
Luis Enrique and Fulham head coach Marco Silva also made the latter stages of the recruitment process.
But Postecoglou has significant support from within the Tottenham hierarchy and will now be tasked with reviving a club that finished eighth in the Premier League last season and is without a trophy since 2008.
His resume may have convinced Spurs to see Greek born coach to take the team to the next level.
Last Saturday, Postecoglou won Scottish Cup, to secure his fifth domestic trophy in two seasons.
Prior to this, he also won Australian titles with South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar. He became boss of the Socceroos and won an Asian Cup and managed at the World Cup finals.
In Japan, he took Yokohama Marinos to a J-League title.
Born in a suburb of Athens, his father Dimitris lost his business in the Greek military coup of 1967. By 1970 the family had set sail for Melbourne, Australia.
