This year is proving to be a rather tragic one for the film industry in Nigeria, between January and Saturday, 31 July, 2021, a total of 11 actors have lost their lives, reports The Gazelle News.com.
The latest of such death was that of veteran and versatile actress, Rachel Oniga, who died on Saturday, 31 July, 2021 at the age of 64.
Folake Aremu, popularly called Orisabunmi, was the first to answer final call from God. She died on 6 January, 2021. The cause of her death became controversial: a section of the media reported that she died from complications resulting from Covid-19 infection but her family had refuted this.
Apart from Folake Aremu and Rachel Oniga, highlighted below is the names of actors who died between January and July this year.
1. Folake Aremu;
The popular Nollywood actress was majorly known as Orisabunmi. The talented actress lost the battle to the cold hands of death on January 6, 2021 becoming the first of many actors to died in this 2021. According to reports, the family denied reports that Orisabunmi died of Covid-19 complications.
2. Jim Lawson Maduike;
Just 3 days after the death of Orisabunmi, death strike again and this time killing popular Nollywood legend, Maduike on January 9, 2021. He reportedly died after complaining of body aches.
3. David Mela;
2 days later, a young and fast-rising actor, David Mela answer the call of death on January 11, 2021. The actor who was said to be battling with a personal life problem passed away after an undisclosed ailments.
4. Dan Nkolaogu;
Dan Nkolaogu, the popular actor who is known for his herbalist role died at the age of 83 years old on January 22, 2021.
The cause of his death was not disclosed but the son said the father left them without saying goodbye.
5. Ernest Asuzu;
Nollywood actor, Ernest Asuzu died 4 days after the death of Dan. The actor died on January 26, 2021 which was confirmed by the wife who told the media that he fainted and never woke up again.
6. Victor Decker;
Another popular Nollywood legend, Victor Decker lost his life to the cold hands of death at the age of 72 on 16th February, 2021. He was reported to have been found dead in his room.
7. Sadiq Daba;
The popular Nollywood legend, Sadiq Daba died on March 3rd, 2021 after recovering from his ailments. The popular actor appeared in Kunle Afolayan movie “Citation” which was his last movie before death.
8. Ben Iwuoha;
Veteran Nollywood actor, Ben Iwuoha also bow down to death as he leaves this world on April 10th, 2021 after a prolonged battle with illness. The actor death was really painful as his long time illness takes a toll on his life.
9. Rachal Bakam;
Beautiful Nollywood actress, Rachal Bakam dies on 13th April, 2021 at just 38-Years-Old, the beautiful actress died after a brief illness.
According to research, Rachal complained of Anaemia and was rushed to the hospital but died.
10. Ify Onwuemene;
Nollywood actress and Legend, Ify Onwuemene dies of Endometrial Cancer on May 25th, 2021. The death of the actress was painful to many Nigerians as the beautiful woman was a good woman but the cancer she was battling with for years took her life.
11. Rachel Oniga;
On 31st July, 2021, Nollywood industry lost another legend to the cold hands of death as Rachel Oniga wave goodbye to the world. There is still no confirmed reports about the cause of the death of the 64 years old veteran actress.
